COUNCILS AND COMMISSIONS

If you like planning and organizing, you may be suited for one or more of the councils and commissions that oversee the various ministries at Holy Spirit.

Pastoral Council

The Parish Pastoral Council acts as a consultant to the pastor.  The purpose of the Council is to form community as a sign and witness of unity for the larger parish community; to provide recommendations for parish priorities and directions through pastoral planning; and to promote communication and understanding among parish organizations and between the parish, the Archdiocese and the universal Church.  Council members serve a 3-year term and may serve up to two consecutive terms.

Finance Council

The Finance Council is a consultative body, which provides the pastor with advice concerning the stewardship of parish fiscal resources.  It advises the pastor by conducting long-range financial planning with regard to funding operational and capital needs in the parish and developing a three-year fiscal plan; developing and overseeing a parish budget process which results in an annual parish budget; providing financial analysis of current fiscal status reports; and providing fiscal analysis of proposed goals, strategies and programs.

Christian Formation Commission

Members meet once a month to discuss faith formation programs for children and families and make recommendations regarding religious education calendar, curriculum, community service projects, activities and events.

Facilities and Grounds Commission

Responsibilities include future planning, maintenance of existing buildings, landscaping and maintenance of grounds, building security, and recommendations regarding use of buildings and grounds.

Social Action Commission

We are a commission that recommends ways in which our parishioners will promote justice and peace and minister to the needs of those in the parish and in the wider community, and ways our parish can become involved in social justice issues of our society.

Stewardship Commission

The Parish Stewardship Commission is vital to the proper implementation of a process that encompasses all aspects of stewardship (time, talent and treasure).

  • To demonstrate in their own lives an understanding of and commitment to stewardship as a way of life
  • To educate the parishioners as to the church’s interpretation of stewardship as a way of life and to inspire them to take ownership of this Baptismal calling
  • To motivate people to become excited about living the Gospel message
  • To encourage the recognition, appreciation, and utilization of all our God-given gifts for the further building of the Kingdom.
  • To raise the people's awareness of the various parish and diocesan ministries available for expressing their call to stewardship.

Liturgy & Spiritual LIfe Commission

This Commission has responsibility for assessing the spiritual needs of the parish and recommending to the pastor sacramental policies and practices.  The Commission recommends to the pastor methods for spiritual and liturgical renewal, and is responsible for recommendations about the more permanent art and environmental aspects of the worship space.  Responsibilities may also include developing major liturgical themes for the year.  The Commission meets once a month.
